A Sad Day

This was going to be my post announcing my birthday giveaway, but instead, we take pause to pay homage to one of our furry family members who passed away yesterday morning. This grand old gentle cat has been in our family since 2005 when we brought him home from the local animal shelter. We were there to pick out a cat for my youngest daughter, Hannah. She was fixated on a one year old, very sick black cat whom I was hoping she would not end up wanting. Then, one of the shelter workers walked in with a box of 2 kittens. One of them was this rambunctious little tabby.  He had been given up by his owner at the age of 14 weeks because he chewed on some wires (something kittens do!) He was such a cutie, we could not help but fall in love with him and he was the kitten who ended up steeling our hearts and coming home with us.
He was the source of much entertainment. He loved getting into mischief!

Hannah adored him and loved to hug him and carry him around.
He grew to be quite a big cat -- well muscled, majestic. Very tiger like. He was a hunter! He often brought home his catch of the day -- so proud he was to show it off and let us know that he could provide for his family! 😊😺

Tired after a long day of hunting! Chillin' with his best friend!
It was impossible to keep him inside as his hunting instinct was so strong. On one of his hunting excursions about 5 years ago, he did not come home that night. We were worried about what might have happened to him. I put food out for him to see if it would draw him in. After 2 days, he arrived back home, but it was obvious he had been in a pretty bad fight. We took him to the vet to patch him up. He seemed none the worse for wear, but we began being more vigilant about not letting him get outside. He became quite ill, so we took him to the vet. After many tests including specific blood tests, we found out he was FIV position (shorthand for feline aids). It is assumed that he got in a fight with a feral cat who had the disorder. The vet said that while many cat owners would likely put a cat with this down, she said it was still possible for him to have a good life as long as he didn't get too sick again. We decided we would do our best to keep him as healthy as possible and decided to let him live out his life as long as was possible.

For the most part, he has been pretty healthy and happy for the last 5 years. When he did get sick, we were quick to get him to the vet to get treatment. We continued to be vigilant about keeping him from getting outside. More recently, his health started to spiral down. He wasn't eating or drinking much and he hid in the basement of our home. He lost a lot of weight. He went from being a robust 18 to 17 pound cat to weighing in at about 8 lbs., 4 oz on his last vet visit. Since we had a previous cat who had renal failure, we knew that the signs were pointing in that direction. The vet confirmed that he didn't have much time left and suggest we NOT let him go into renal failure as it would be a very painful experience for him. We had no choice but to help him in his final journey across the rainbow bridge. As you can imagine, this was not a easy decision, but we made the decision to proceed as it seemed as though he was deteriorating very fast.

So, we had to say goodbye to our old friend. We have spend the last couple of days coddling him and holding him as much as possible. By now, he was not more that a bag of skin and bones, so we know we had to act quickly to keep him from suffering. So, with a heavy heart, but with very good and cherished memories of him, Mittens passed away with assistance from the vet. There have been a lot of tears around here, but we knew it was the best thing to do for him. Goodbye sweet boy!

After things settle down here a bit and we take a little time to recuperate from our grief, I will be putting together the details of my birthday giveaway, so come back to see what the giveway item/items will be this year and the rules of the contest. My birthday was actually on July 13 and it was a big one! Should I make you try and guess what birthday I was celebrating this year????!!!! Nah, I guess I can tell you - I will be Thirty ssssssssomething! Not that is not it. I celebrated my 65th birthday! Yikes, that was hard to say/type! Since this is a milestone birthday, I promise the prizes will be big. There will be at least 2 lucky winners -- one in the US and one outside of the US. There will be completely separate drawing for each of these.

Stay tuned, I will be back soon with more information.

Wonder Woman Collector Dolls

Yes, I had to! I did get the entire collection of the Wonder Woman dolls from The Barbie Collection. Twice. One set to keep intact, the other to redress and otherwise modify to fit into the Hanaly Corners neighborhood. So, here we go!

Here is a group photo of the entire series.
The Paradise Island Gift set packaging was actually pretty awesome! It make a nice background for photos.

I released Steve from his packaging entrapments and sat him on the rock. He looks in awe and the beautiful island princess.

Next, I released Princess Diana.

I placed all of them in the Paradise Island background.
I removed all the dolls from their clothing and redressed them in casual clothing. Queen Hippolyta and General Antiope are dressed in Fashions from the 2016 IT convention. Steve Trevor had whatever clothes I could find quickly for my male dolls. Note that he is hands are gloved and they are not easy to get off, but I will do so at a future date. In the meantime, I might rebody him on a Texas A&M Ken doll body. Wonder Woman Paradise Island is dressed in an outfit from one of the new Barbie Fashion packs.

General Antiope received a hair cut. I also unbraided her hair and boilwashed it. I really like the sassy short cut on her.

Many have questioned whether or not Antiope and Hippolyta are the same face mold. Seeing them side by side, I see differences in them that make me believe they are NOT, even though they are quite similar. From these views, you can see that their nose angles are quite different as are the angles of their chins. Antiope appears to have a wider jaw line than Hippolyta and their eyes and lips look different to me as well. What do you think???

New Fashionistas!

Hello, its me! I know I haven't been very active lately, although I have been reading many of your blogs and making some comments. The last couple of months have been a bit tough for me healthwise. I had my annual physical, and I knew I was having some health issues. It seems that there was something wrong with about every test, so I have been to all the specialties. Heart, lungs, gastrointestinal, Obgyn and rheumatology. They have put me through so many invasive tests. I sometimes wonder how in the world they come up with them. I mean, there has to be a better way to prep for a colonoscopy! The prep is what will kill you! I also had a biospy in my temple and had part of my hair shaved off. I am being treated for temporal arteritis which required the use of steroids which started at extremely high doses and that seemed to cause me so many other issues! I am working through it all and now that I am tapering off of the steroids a bit, I am feeling a bit better. Don't worry though, I am not going anywhere!

So, since I really didn't feel up to going out of the house to shop, I did take advantage of online shopping. Amazon had many of the new Fashionistas, so, of course, I had to have some of them! I think the post office has just built a conveyor belt to my front door to deliver all of the packages. 😏🚐

I will share with you the first arrivals.

All have been rebodied, and some redressed.
I am giving you the particulars on each doll below. I hope you enjoy!

Well, that is it for the first batch! Trust me, there is more to come! I mean, what else was I gonna do? I love dolls! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my new dolls.

Hanaly Corners Update!

After finishing my body modifications to make an articulated Curvy Barbie, I decided to give the upgraded body to my mini me in Hanaly Corners. And, since my daughters are growing up (ages 17 and 21 now) I decided to upgrade their mini me's as well to reflect who they are now better. Plus, it gives me more interesting stories to tell about them. Here we all are!

L to R: Hannah (age 17), Phyllis (???), Alyssa (age 21). Hannah is on a Pure Neemo L body, Phyllis has the modified Curvy Barbie Body and Alyssa is on a Pure Neemo M body.

We will also be getting a house in Hanaly Corners. I am just getting started on it. I have the High School Musical house that I will be working on to be our home!

The upstairs will have 2 bedrooms and a bathroom between them.I will most likely extend out the floors to give this house more floorspace.

The first floor will have a kitchen, dining area and living room. I am excited to begin working on it! Our dog, Carly and cats Mittens and Jasmine approve of the new digs!
I will share progress on this home as I go. I hope you guys will like what I end up doing!

I hope everyone is having a Happy Mother's day today! My girls fixed me breakfast this morning and are taking me out to dinner tonight!

Happy Mother's Day. Hope everybody has a wonderful day!

Indigo Obsession - A Grail Doll Purchased!

"Indigo Obsession Barbie" by designer Byron Lars has long been on my grail list. However, it was beginning to seem that I would not be able to get her at a price I was willing to pay, and I had kind of given up on getting her. Released in 2000, here is her stock photo below:

While browsing through photos on Flickr, I ran across a series of photos of the various Byron Lars dolls that Mattel had produced. Among these, I saw a beautiful photo of my coveted Indigo Obsession, which once again made me go on the hunt for her. Low and behold, I was able to find not one, but two of these beauties within my price point, and as a matter of fact, she was only a few dollars more than her original price on Barbie Collector! I decided that I probably would not see her at this price again anytime in the near future, so I made the plunge and purchased her.

She arrive, NRFB a few days ago.

Still in her box, she is every bit as stunning as I imagined she would be!

I am not one to leave my dolls in the box, though. She was very quickly released!
When Mattel released the darker skintone AA doll "Barbie Girls of Music Playset" I quickly ordered more than one of them from Amazon as I knew this would be a skintone that I would definitely need for body swapping!

While she is not a MTM body (which would have been nice, Mattel!), she does have approximately the same articulation of some of the earlier Fashionista releases. Her joints are nice and sturdy and it doesn't bother me that she doesn't have the jointed ankles.

I thought that this skintone was a very good match for my Indigo Obsession, so I promptly rebodied her!

I am so very happy with this new lady! She will cetainly be turning some head in Hanaly Corners!

A New Wildflower Doll

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Wildflower Dolls, but I just purchased my second one. My first one was a doll that reminded me of my sister Margie who had passed away in 1969 from leukemia. I had named her Margie after my sister:

You may remember Margie from a previous post

My second Wildflower Doll is an Asian beauty. When I saw her on Flickr, I immediately contacted Andrea Meyer at her Etsy shop:Wildflower Dolls to order her. Andrea is a true artisan. She sculpts and paints each unique doll head and affixes them to an articulated body. Margie is on an Obitsu body and my new doll is on a Made to Move Body, but Andrea will create them on any other body you choose.

Meet Maylee!

So beautiful!

It was not long before some of the men around here took notice of her. I recently restyled a Japanese Ken doll and put him on a Superman body. He was the first to have his head turned!

He still has his fisted hands, but he will be getting some FR Homme hands very soon!

He was quick to introduce himself to Maylee and to suggest that the photographer take some photos of them together.

But he was not the only fellow to take notice of the beautiful Maylee! Takeshi Kaneshiro was about to leave the studio after his photos were taken when he saw the rare beauty!

Before I knew it, Takeshi had introduced himself to Maylee!

This did not go unnoticed by the other interested fellow.

Japanese Ken was quick to let Takeshi Kaneshiro know he had eyes on Maylee!

Maylee was quick to let them know who would be making that decision!
Well, Maylee, looks like things will be interesting for you in Hanaly Corners!
